Empowered patients improve outcomes
Non-adherence to medication is not a new global healthcare concern but with more people living with long-term conditions the problem is increasing1. A difficult problem to solve, this multifaceted phenomenon2 can have a variety of negative effects for society and for the individuals involved.
This paper discusses why non-adherence is occurring, how patients’ can be better engaged with their conditions and treatments and provides examples and results of patient engagement in action.
